Stronger Together: Unifique Secures Regional Networks with CrowdStrike

Unifique, the largest independent fiber optic provider in southern Brazil, has transformed from a regional telecom company into a full-service technology partner offering mobile connectivity, cloud computing, and IT services to a growing customer base.

With more than 24,000 active containers and six Kubernetes clusters powering its internal workloads, Unifique needed a cybersecurity partner that could keep pace with its rapid growth, hybrid infrastructure, and cloud-first vision.

In 2022, Unifique selected the AI-native CrowdStrike Falcon® cybersecurity platform to secure its operations and lay the foundation for long-term expansion. Within two years, the company’s security maturity jumped from below industry average to a level exceeding that of many U.S. publicly traded firms, thanks to a focused effort across people, process, and technology. CrowdStrike played a central role in that journey.

“We set out to build something few companies achieve in five years, and we did it in two,” said Gabriel Amâncio, CIO at Unifique. “CrowdStrike gave us the visibility, speed, and confidence to get there.”

That transformation didn’t just protect Unifique, it unlocked a new business model. In 2024, the company launched a managed cybersecurity offering powered by CrowdStrike, which led it to secure one of the largest B2B contracts in its 28-year history.

Building a Security-First Foundation

When Unifique began preparing to deliver 5G services and expand its cloud offerings, it faced a rapidly evolving threat landscape with limited visibility into its endpoints, containers, and user behavior. Cybersecurity wasn’t yet on the executive agenda, but that changed quickly. By early 2022, the company’s board had committed to a full-scale transformation that would align its security strategy to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and build out a dedicated team of cybersecurity professionals.

Amâncio and his team brought in CrowdStrike to address gaps in detection, response, and risk management. CrowdStrike Falcon® Insight XDR gave Unifique the endpoint protection it lacked, providing a single source of truth across physical and virtual infrastructure. Incidents that previously went undetected were now surfaced and resolved quickly. Alert volume dropped, and false positives became rare.

“The Falcon platform helped us focus on real threats,” said Djonatan Bazzanella, head of cybersecurity and data privacy. “We’re not wasting time chasing noise. We’re prioritizing what matters and responding faster than ever before.”

The platform’s integrated threat intelligence exceeded expectations, helping Unifique identify adversary behaviors, prioritize improvements, and stay ahead of evolving attacks.

Extending Protection to Identity and Cloud

As the team matured its security posture, it expanded the Falcon platform footprint to include identity and cloud protection. The decision to add CrowdStrike Falcon® Next-Gen Identity Security was driven by the need to defend against credential-based attacks and phishing — especially as the company introduced more digital services and remote access across its business units.

“The user is still the weakest link,” Amâncio said. “Identity protection ensures that even when credentials are compromised, we can contain the damage.”

With the company’s cloud-native 5G platform running across both Google Cloud Platform and Unifique’s private cloud, visibility into cloud workloads was equally critical. CrowdStrike Falcon® Cloud Security provided that visibility by identifying misconfigurations, prioritizing vulnerabilities, and correlating threats across hybrid environments — all from the same console the team used for endpoint and identity security.

“CrowdStrike gave us the ability to standardize protection,” said Bazzanella. “Now, our ERP system running on bare metal and our mobile platform running in the cloud have the same level of cybersecurity. We manage it all in one place.”

The cloud deployment now spans six clusters and more than 24,000 containers, secured and monitored without requiring special configurations. That agility has allowed Unifique to scale faster, onboard new services, and support internal development with confidence.

From Customer to Managed Security Provider

Unifique’s internal success with the Falcon platform soon became a springboard for something larger. Recognizing an opportunity in the market, the company partnered with CrowdStrike to launch a managed cybersecurity service. Under this model, Unifique delivers not just licenses, but fully managed protection, supported by its own SOC and MDR teams.

That offering quickly proved its value. In early 2024, Unifique landed the largest B2B technology contract in its history — one it would not have qualified for without a credible, end-to-end cybersecurity service built on CrowdStrike. The offering combines CrowdStrike’s endpoint, identity, cloud, and exposure management platform modules, wrapped in customized monitoring, detection, and response tailored to each customer.

“Our job is to help customers understand their risk and make smart decisions,” said Amâncio. “With CrowdStrike, we can do that with clarity and speed.”

A Platform for Latin America’s Cyber Challenges

Unifique’s leadership believes the cybersecurity challenges facing Brazil — and Latin America more broadly — require flexible, consolidated solutions that adapt to regional complexity and resource constraints. From navigating LGPD compliance to protecting hybrid infrastructure, organizations across the region need technologies that integrate seamlessly and deliver value from day one.

“The complexity of IT in Latin America isn’t going away,” Amâncio concluded. “But with CrowdStrike, we’re managing that complexity and turning it into a competitive advantage.”
