Environment

Protecting our planet for today and tomorrow.

Reducing our impact

As a cloud-native cybersecurity software company with a remote-friendly culture and a small real estate footprint, we focus our environmental efforts on the areas most relevant to our business. We are taking steps to measure our carbon footprint and energy use, and also evaluate opportunities to reduce our environmental impact where appropriate.

Taking action

These are some of the the ways we're working to assess and reduce our environmental impact across CrowdStrike's operations.

  • Set science-based targets

We submitted our commitment letter in January 2024 to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), expressing our intent to develop near- and long-term company-wide emission reduction targets in line with science-based net-zero standards.

  • Quantify impacts, risks, and opportunities

We measure the most significant environmental impacts of our operations, have conducted a climate risk assessment, and continually work to identify opportunities for reductions.

  • Promote remote work

Our remote-friendly culture not only promotes work-life balance but also reduces employee commuting and our need to operate large offices.

  • Empower CrowdStrikers’ sustainable actions

We welcome our employees’ ideas to conserve CrowdStrike’s use of natural resources and also encourage them to build sustainable habits in their daily lives.

  • Prioritize green building

The majority of our largest office buildings are LEED- or ENERGY STAR®-certified and we prioritize green building practices in the construction, build out, and renovation of our facilities.

  • Provide sustainable work environments

We conserve natural resources through energy and water efficiency, source material reduction, material reuse, and recycling.

  • Minimize data center impact

We include environmental impact criteria in the selection and planning of CrowdStrike data centers, including the use of renewable energy.

  • Encourage sustainable travel

We encourage virtual meetings and offer employees a travel booking system that shows the emissions associated with their flights so they can make informed decisions.

  • Taking Action Through Market Instruments

We partner with Watershed Technology Inc. to identify, purchase, and retire a variety of high-quality energy attribute certificates (EACs). We have also worked with ClimeCo and CarbonFund to purchase and retire high-quality, certified carbon offsets.

  • Comply with regulations

We are committed to conducting our business in alignment with applicable environmental laws and regulations.

  • Incorporate best practices

We are a member of Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) to enhance our knowledge, collaboration, and action on sustainability issues.

CrowdStrike data centers

In selecting data centers, CrowdStrike takes environmental impact into account, prioritizing locations with sustainable power and a lower carbon footprint. We prioritize cloud providers and vendors using renewable energy. We continually strive to increase the watts-to-performance ratio of our computing, which helps curb emissions.

When feasible, we choose servers with lower power demands and adjust the power supply based on demand to minimize energy use. We’re also commissioning new customers to data centers with a reduced environmental footprint. And we’re optimizing our methodology for impact reporting.

Collective environmental action

We empower CrowdStrike employees to suggest and implement ideas for reducing our environmental impact. Our Green Team, a global employee interest group, drives education and inspires action.
