International Logistics Company LGI Strengthens Cyber Defense with the CrowdStrike Falcon Platform
LGI Logistics Group International GmbH (LGI), headquartered near Stuttgart, Germany, specializes in industry-specific, end-to-end supply chain solutions. It’s one of the leading contract logistics providers in Europe and covers the entire supply chain with its services, which range from procurement and warehousing to delivery and returns.
With around 5,000 employees at more than 50 locations, the logistics company not only has a decentralized IT structure but also a very heterogeneous application landscape. In order to best protect these environments, LGI relies on the AI-native CrowdStrike Falcon® cybersecurity platform and CrowdStrike Falcon® Complete Next-Gen MDR.
Strengthening IT Security with a Modern, AI-Native Platform
When Christoph Frank became Head of Process & Technology Solutions and Strategy at LGI in 2020, the company was beginning an extensive transformation process, which included IT security. Frank quickly realized the traditional AV solution previously in use could no longer stand up to modern threats. He immediately launched a comprehensive search for a new cybersecurity platform that would offer both comprehensive protection and high user-friendliness.
"Given the existing complex IT landscape, creating full visibility and comprehensive endpoint protection was at the top of my priority list," said Frank.
The search was accelerated by a major cyberattack in LGI’s environment. "We got off light at the time, but it was clear that given the sophistication of the attack, we needed to significantly raise our security level. Together with senior management, we accelerated the process of adopting a next-gen security solution,” explained Frank.
LGI conducted a comprehensive market analysis with various vendors and tested different solutions. Ultimately, LGI was convinced by the Falcon platform and its single-agent approach.
“It was important for us to be future-proof with our choice. That’s why we chose the Falcon platform. With the addition of various CrowdStrike modules and services, we can customize our deployment to respond effectively to the constantly evolving threat landscape,” said Frank.
Simple Implementation and 24/7 Protection
The rollout of the Falcon platform took only a few days. “I have never experienced such a smooth rollout on this scale. Our 1,500 clients and 500 virtual servers were secured via the single agent in no time. And there were no performance issues, which is not a given compared to other solutions,” said Frank.
To ensure around-the-clock protection, LGI chose Falcon Complete Next-Gen MDR, gaining 24/7 managed detection and response led by CrowdStrike experts.
“For a company of our size, strong cybersecurity protection is essential, but we had reached natural limits with our internal resources. Falcon Complete supplements our internal security processes with 24/7 coverage, responsiveness, and a level of visibility we didn’t have before,” said Frank. “Without CrowdStrike’s support, we would have needed significantly more IT specialists with highly specialized expertise. Thanks to Falcon Complete, we were able to free up internal capacity for other important IT tasks … a win-win situation for us.”
LGI later extended its use of the Falcon platform with its adoption of CrowdStrike Falcon® Exposure Management to optimize vulnerability management. “It was really interesting for us to see how powerful Exposure Management is in practice. It reveals vulnerabilities in real time and with brutal honesty. This has greatly improved our protection against data theft and breaches,” added Frank.
Real-time Protection Against Identity-based Attacks
Identity protection is also a top priority at LGI, which is why the logistics company added CrowdStrike Falcon® Identity Protection to its Falcon platform deployment.
“The threat landscape is becoming increasingly complex and attackers more sophisticated. We wanted to ensure optimal protection against this increasingly common attack vector,” said Frank.
With Falcon Identity Protection, LGI can detect and stop identity-related compromises in a complex hybrid IT environment. This is made possible by the single-agent approach and central console, which provides a comprehensive overview of all attacks on endpoints and identities.
“Overall, CrowdStrike has given us a much better understanding of what’s happening in our IT environment and helps us improve every day,” Frank said. “In the past, things happened that we couldn’t see or control. Now we have transparency at the push of a button, which has helped us enormously in our daily operations and in achieving ISO 27001 certification.”
With CrowdStrike, LGI gained a responsive 24/7 SOC and the modern technology needed to stop breaches.
“Cybersecurity has to evolve constantly, especially in light of ever-changing threats. With CrowdStrike, we have a suitable solution for every challenge, combining technological excellence with human expertise. For us, it’s a first-class combination,” concluded Frank.
